Writing Journey: Filling In the Blanks

I thought it’d be interesting to keep some updates of my writing progress of my current WIP! Last week, I finally managed to find my voice and things have been moving along dandily. I’ve been working steadily on rewriting the first draft of my story (which I begun a little before NaNoWriMo). I turned out most of the first draft during NaNoWriMo but those were just the bare bones of it. Now that I have a clearer idea of the world my characters live in and what they’re all about, I’m now going back to fill in more detail – provide shading and colouring and filling in the blanks, as it were.

There’s still a lot more refining to go here. I call this my draft 1.2 because I still think of it as my first draft! Because I’m adding in a lot more detail now and stopping more often to consider my world, the progress is a lot slower but it’s also a lot more rewarding and exciting.

I’m loving this new world my characters live in – it’s bold, it’s brash and it’s definitely not dull. Is it dangerous? You betcha boots it is.
