Week in Training (July 28th to August 3rd)

Swan River Sunset Run

How awesome is this view? That’s the view I had while running home from work this week.

It definitely helped me to stay in my frame of mind as I prepared for my first ever run home from work which I haven’t actually attempted before. Plus, I was trying to be good and not eat too much while I was at work (I am a total food junkie at work. Something to eat every hour kind of girl) so I wouldn’t get a stitch or have my appendix burst on me or something while running home but my workmates were being diabolical and pressing grilled cheese sandwiches and cinnamon and sugar doughnuts on me and suddenly I became The Girl Who Just Can’t Say No.

The sandwiches and doughnuts were awesome. I only had a minor stitch and managed to run through that on the way home. That might have been helped by the fact that I kept stopping at the new sights I came across on this new route and going, ‘Ooh, river!’ or ‘Ooh, bridge!’

And then I would stop and take a photo.

The photo isn’t going up because the camera on my phone is pretty crap. I was lucky to get a decent photo of the river above.

And then I would stop and try to skip around this detour using what I thought would be a very clever shortcut and then realising there was a reason why all the other cyclists and runners were going the other way. Because there was a great big fence and highway in the way of my clever shortcut.

And then I would stop to talk to lost strangers. And try to offer them directional advice. Which didn’t help because I had no clue what the names of the roads are around me anyway. I could, however, point them in the way of the nearest bar. Because I knew exactly where that was. It’s quite a nice bar too. But the lady I was trying to help wasn’t too interested in that. All she wanted was to go to her friend’s home. (or boyfriend. or lover. or person she’s having an affair with, I don’t know. I didn’t ask). Maybe I should suggest if she’s truly lost, she should go to the bar instead and have a drink.

Anyway.

I know I’ve been saying I need to ramp up my swimming but again I only fitted in one practice session this week. And I didn’t even show up for my swim class because we had a spur of the moment weekend getaway! Which was totally awesome and something I felt I really needed. I know, I know. I’ll get back to swimming next week. I promise!

Meanwhile, in the Kayla Itsines BBG saga, I’ve hit Week 8. Week 8!!! Only four more weeks to go!

I’m kind of afraid of the next four weeks because her workouts gets progressively harder as time goes by. And everyone always talks about how especially hard her last four weeks are.

Week 8 alone, which is a repeat of Week 6’s workout, totally kills because, as previously mentioned, in this particular round Kayla very cunningly schedules all the arms and abs workouts first, making you think, ‘Yeah, I got this.’ And then you go on a long cardio run on Thursday and when you hit Friday, she’s scheduled a really mean kick ass cardio and legs session and before you know it, you’re dying all over the place and crying and wondering what you ever did to Kayla to have her do this to you.

She is hard core, that woman! Hard core!

I feel like I would see more progress if I hadn’t had that doughnut. On the other hand, my stomach is a lot flatter and also tends to stay flatter than usual even after I’ve had a particularly big meal so that is fantastic!

I’ll put up a progress pic sometime. I swear. Just not after the doughnuts.
