Week in Training: January 26th to February 1st

This week has been a stiflingly muggy week, the kind of week where you feel more like sitting in the air-conditioning, rather than getting any workouts in. The heat, coupled with the fact that there was a public holiday long weekend, loads of social outings throughout the week (including celebrations over the fact that a loved one’s health scare turned out to have better news than we had at first feared – apologies, I have to remain a bit cryptic about this as it involves someone else’s privacy) and having to work on the weekend meant I didn’t actually get in much exercise at all. In fact, I think I might have drank too much beer and eaten way too much and I am seriously looking forward to next week so I can start getting healthier again!

So far it’s been a good summer though and the week began in a good way, with a public holiday Monday for Australia Day. My friend’s parents own an apartment overlooking the Swan River so we were able to have a spectacular view of the fireworks that evening. It was gorgeous!

There were still gym classes on Monday, though it was a public holiday, and I took advantage of the fact by fitting in both a Body Combat and a Body Balance class that morning. I almost didn’t feel like going (it was a public holiday after all!) but in the end I did make it to the gym and I am so glad I did because it made me feel a lot better about the rest of the week!

The heat has reminded me once more that I needed to start drinking more water. This is another one of my resolutions for the New Year – to make sure I get in the required two litres (or half a gallon or eight glasses, whatever measurement takes your preference) of water a day! It has been so hot and I know I just haven’t been drinking enough! Well, I have been drinking, but it’s been more beers and sugary apple juices than it has been actual water!

At least the hot weather has also had me craving lots of watermelon, grapes and green juices as well. Cold watermelon is the best on a hot day!

Speaking of water, if you need any incentive to drink more water, check out the before and after photos of this woman who claims drinking three litres of water a day took 10 years off her face. It’s no scientific study, but, hey, anything that gets us drinking more water can only be a good thing!

Finally, is it already the first day of February? Where did January go?!?

It’s a Facebook campaign launched by a Sydney mum and it’s all about doing random acts of kindness throughout the month of February. I think that is such a great idea and I’m keen to start joining in!

  • Thursday: 4km run and one hill climb
  • Friday: Rest
  • Saturday: 2km treadmill run and CxWorx
  • Sunday: Rest
