Wednesday was spent walking to lighten the load of all the delicious food we had been eating on our trip.
We strolled along the Hudson River on our way to the High Line, which is a gorgeous urban garden built along the former West Side Line of the New York Central Rail.
Along the High Line, you can see sculptures by various artists, part of a collection called Busted. They include this statue below by local artist Frank Benson called Jessie. The drape of the dress and the sunnies reminds me a lot of the style of Diane Von Furstenberg who is (coincidence or not?) one of the champions of the High Line.
That orange sign above rings so true…and the yellow sign below made me laugh.
Some of the amazing buildings we saw along the High Line included the IAC Building by Frank Gehry which looks like a giant melting ice cube and the HL23 building.
Just as we finished walking the length of the High Line, the clouds we saw brewing earlier that morning began to drop a light drizzle on us which quickly turned into a full-on summer storm so we caught a cab over to MOMA for lunch and a stroll through the museum.
We finished off the day by heading back to the Meat Packing District for dinner at the Spice Market followed by yet more cocktails at Employee’s Only, yet another one of New York’s secret bars! The way to identify this bar is to look out for the fortune teller at the shop front. Despite J’s grumblings, I decided to get my fortune told as well – the perfect way to cap off the night!
