The Salonniere’s Gift Guide for Fitness Junkies

Welcome to the second installment of the Salonniere’s Gift Guide for Christmas!

Today I’m looking at the kind of things I’d put on my wish list, fitness-wise. There are so many great things out there and you can never have enough workout clothes, in my opinion. But if I really had to choose, these are things I’d ask Santa for…

Clockwise from top left:

  1. This Lorna Jane Rosana Excel Tank/Bra combo in pale fluro orange caught my eye from the start. You can’t see it in this picture, but it looks so pretty from the back. And I’m always a fan of gym tops with built-in bras!
  2. I first saw this Gaiam Everything Fits Gym Bag on Julie from Peanut Butter Fingers’ blog and fell in love immediately. The main thing that got me in the heart was the vented compartment for sneakers. It’s such a great idea and I would love to use this bag, not just for the gym, but as a carry-on while travelling because I’ve always had such a hard time stuffing my sneakers into my carry-on bag/suitcase. And I also love the outside pocket for a water bottle. It’s perfect for carrying my Tupperware sports bottle!
  3. For me, the perfect piece of exercise equipment to take while traveling would be a set of resistance bands. It’s light and easy to pack and would provide a great addition to running while on holiday. This Black Mountain Resistance Band set comes with a door anchor, ankle strap, a carrying case and an exercise chart as well so it looks pretty well worth it.
  4. I’ve read about these Nike FuelBands for a while and though I thought they sounded a bit like a gimmicky fitness craze that would eventually die out, I couldn’t help wanting one as well. I like the idea of having a discreet wristband that tracks my steps and workout intensity and which shows my Daily Goal progress. It’s like a super cool pedometer and the Fuelband in rose gold is so pretty and so much better looking than any old pedometer.
  5. For a while, I’ve wanted a Gym Boss interval timer for circuit workouts and interval running. The only thing stopping me was that I didn’t find the Gym Boss visually pretty and balked at the idea of buying a small gadget that only did one thing – interval tracking – when I’m pretty sure other companies have incorporated interval tracking into other fitness gadgets that provided a variety of services. And sure enough – the Suunto Ambit2 might be a bit of a clunky looking watch, but it’s got all the goods – GPS system and route tracking for running plus an interval timer. And I can wear it and pretend that I’m a real outdoorsy type who goes hiking through wild snowblown mountains and take a black-and-white picture, staring dreamily in the distance with my hand resting on my shoulder, ever-so-subtly displaying my Suunto like a celebrity advertising a Tag Heuer watch. One day, one day…
  6. And finally, I wouldn’t mind finding a Weider 20lb power bell under the tree on Christmas morning. No, I definitely can not do kettlebell swings with a 20 pound bell. But the secret of this power bell is that it’s actually the kettle bell version of a Russian matryoshka doll! You can separate and adjust the weights in this baby from between five to 20 pounds to suit your workout and your strength level. And it saves on space in your home gym.

All this talk about Christmas workout gear is reminding me that I really need to get off my chair and start moving around for a bit! So I’m off for a run… and I hope you’ll check back soon for the next episode in the Salonniere’s Gift Guide for Christmas!
