Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters from MOMA exhibition

Marcel Duchamp’s In Advance of the Broken Arm

With the weather turning wild and gusty right before summer, indoor activities are the order of the day when it comes to planning ahead for this weekend. Movies are a great way to pass the time (catch Skyfall, the latest Bond film, I know I’m dying to) or better yet visit a museum or an art gallery.

And what better time than to visit the Art Gallery of WA if you live in Perth. Time’s running out if you want to catch their Picasso to Warhol: Fourteen Modern Masters from The Museum of Modern Art, New York exhibition – it ends on 3 December.

Andy Warhol Campbell’s Soup Cans. An actual Warhol before my eyes!

The Art Gallery of WA has been going great guns lately. A few years back, they hosted the Egyptian Antiquities from the Louvre exhibition; last year was the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice and Princely Treasures from the Victoria and Albert Museum. Now it’s Picasso to Warhol. It’s all part of their Great Collections of the World series and I’ve got to say I love it! I’m so psyched that I’m able to visit all these beautiful and famous artworks in person without having to travel long flights – my best moment was getting to see a gorgeous Remedios Varo painting – she is one of my all-time favorite artists. And now I can’t wait for next year’s exhibitions – Picturing New York and Van Gogh, Dali and Beyond.

Postcards that exhibition visitors have left for the artists in the exhibition – great idea!

If you’re in Perth and you haven’t been to art gallery yet, you should definitely go. Hurry – there are only a few more days before Piccaso and Warhol leave the building!
