I am learning more and more every day the truth of this quote by Tracee Ellis Ross, to embrace the journey and the progression, to be inspired by the space between where I am and where I want to be. When I was younger, I wanted so badly to reach my goals, I was always impatient and trying to leap ahead of myself. I often felt like the Red Queen running in place, or as if I was moving backwards, rather than towards my goal. I didn’t feel like I was progressing as a writer, no matter how much I wrote; I didn’t realise till later that I was making progress, I just didn’t know it then. Instead, I was filled with a desperation that petrified me and left me unable to enjoy the thing I loved most.

But when I finally learned to let go and to enjoy the journey, to savour each step and immerse myself in the work of honing the quality of my craft, that was when I found I was taking gradual steps towards my goal at last. I know with the current story I am writing, no matter what becomes of it in the end, it would always hold a special place in my heart because I enjoyed writing it so much and I know I have become a better writer along the way. I finally learned to allow the space between where I am and where I want to be inspire and motivate me.
