Did the Ice Age really happen and was Earth really once encased in ice and snow? And if it did happen once, could it ever happen again? These are some of the questions Gabrielle Walker explores as she seeks to find out the truth behind scientist Paul Hoffman’s Snowball Earth theory. The blurb of the book promises adventure, travel and science all wrapped up in one neat package, and coming off the high of Andrea Wulf’s The Invention of Nature, I am keen to find out more! And it’s pretty apropos to be reading about snow and ice just as Australia heads into the first month of winter in June. So off I go now to curl up under a warm blanket, listen to the winter rains outside and read Gabrielle Walker’s Snowball Earth.
