Hair Care (Conditioner) Secret Weapons!

Today I want to share some of my hair care secret weapons!

As my hair is quite long and fine and I colour it regularly, I really need to look after it and to condition it frequently to prevent it from becoming dry, tangled and unmanageable. So I’ve become kind of an expert in finding great conditioners. For me, it’s all about conditioners – I think they make such a big difference in your hair, more so than any shampoo!

First up is the Goldwell Kerasilk Ultrarich Keratin Care Daily Mask.

This is actually a hair salon product so you can usually only purchase it at hair salons. My hairdresser introduced this to me (as well as the qaba hair treatment – more on this further down the post) and this has become the one hair product I can’t do without. I use it at least three or four times a week as a kind of conditioner after washing my hair and I love how shiny, soft and bouncy my hair looks after – I swear, it makes my hair look like it’s been professionally done! This might sound like overkill but I am definitely not lying when I say I’ve never loved my hair more than when I’m using this product.

In fact, in the last couple of months, I went without the product as I ran out of it and never got around to buying more – and my hair got quite limp and frizzy and pretty dry. I was kind of despairing over my hair when I remembered the mask and ran right out to buy it. I’ve just gotten through two washes with the mask and it’s already a hundred times softer and silkier and oh so shiny. Phew!

The only cons of the mask are that at about $30, its pricier than your usual conditioners and it can also be quite hard to find – as I said earlier, it’s usually only sold at hair salons. You can’t even buy it online on their official website! I even went to a shop that only sold salon products and they didn’t have it there! It also came in one slender tube and since I use it so often (and quite a lot of it for my lengthy hair), I run out of the product quite quickly. Still, I don’t stint at the price as it gives me such a great result.

The hair treatment is really rich and lovely – you’re supposed to leave it in for five to 10 minutes so what I do is wash my hair first and then massage the mask into my hair. My hair is quite long so I put it in from mid-length to ends. Then I do everything else – body scrub, facial scrub, etc, so it gives time for the product to soak into my hair before finally washing it off.

When I first bought the mask, I also got the matching shampoo but, to be honest, I only ever made it through the first bottle of shampoo and I never bought it again. I just didn’t feel like it made any difference to my hair in the way that, say, my Shu Uemura Ultimate Remedy shampoo did. Instead, I would rather save my money and put it towards just the mask. All in all, if you want a product that makes your hair look professionally done at home, I highly recommend the Kerasilk Ultrarich Keratin Care Daily Mask.

And next up is the qaba coconut treat leave-in treatment!

Nope, I didn’t misspell that – it’s qaba, all lower case, and, yep, of course my hairdresser recommended this to me as well! This was back when I was doing a lot of swimming in chlorinated pool water and to prevent my hair from getting really dry and yucky, he recommended using this leave-in treatment.

First off, I love, love, love the packaging of this product. It looks like a groovy little apothecary bottle and it’s a spray which means it’s really easy to use. It’s also  got a fantastic smell! I had to admit, I was a bit hesitant when my hairdresser suggested using this as I’m not a big fan of coconut fragrance but this just smells so good, I can’t stop sniffing my hair whenever I use this!

After washing and towelling my hair dry, I spritz it through my ends from mid-length to the bottom and blow dry my hair. The bottle is quite small but unlike the Kerasilk Daily Mask, it lasts for ages – I got the first bottle early last year and I haven’t had to replace it yet. It’s a nice light treatment and the results aren’t as super apparent as the Kerasilk but it makes a nice conditioning and repair alternative to spritz on every other day.

And, no, I haven’t been paid to promote either of these two products. I just really like them, especially the Kerasilk Daily Mask! It’s totally the bomb! I hope you guys love these products too!
