I’m continuing the theme of environment, societies and our planet’s future explored in July’s science read with my August science read – namely, Gaia Vince’s Adventures in the Anthropocene: A Journey to the Heart of the Planet We Made.
In Collapse (July’s science read), author and professor Jared Diamond looked at past societies and the reason behind their collapses, both environmental, political, societal and cultural. For August, I’m looking at the same issues, this time dealing with the present and onward to the future.
In Adventures in the Anthropocene, Gaia Vince, a journalist and editor specialising in science and the environment, takes us on a journey with her as she travels around the world for two years, visiting the people who are at the frontline of humanity’s efforts to curb the environmental problems we have caused on our planet. I’m anticipating a read that will both be a little distressing and yet hopeful at the same time – and one that will be most illuminating and instructive.
